PSAT Prep with Top 1% Tutors

We create National Merit semifinalists and finalists with our highly-effective, personalized PSAT prep program. Your student has high score goals, so don't accept an ordinary tutor. Insist on tutors who understand the test at a high level and can prove it with their top 1% score. We build the entire program around your son or daughter, spending time where they need help and assigning relevant homework that will take them to the next level.

Our private tutoring students schedule sessions directly with their tutor, and we can easily work around busy school and sports schedules. We can prep quickly or slowly, and we work seven days per week.

Sessions at Your Home

PSAT prep sessions can be held at your home or a nearby public library, making the logistics as convenient as possible for your son or daughter.

You've picked a PSAT prep plan above. What happens after you sign up?

From beginning to end, the Test Geek PSAT prep program is all about the student. Here's a snapshot of what you can look forward to:

Intake Form

After you register, we'll send over an intake form to the parent email you provide. That's where we learn more your student, including preferred scheduling and academic background, so we can assign the right tutor.

Tutor Match

Based on the information we gather on the intake form, we will match the right tutor for your son or daughter. The tutor will reach out to you (or you can reach out to the tutor) to make introductions and schedule the first session at a time that is convenient for both you and your student. Sessions typically last two hours and can be held in your home or a public library.

Official SAT Practice Tests

Our private tutoring relies heavily on the use of official PSAT practice tests. All of our students receive homework between sessions, and all of that homework is out of official tests. At the next session, homework is reviewed, and the tutor will go over the problems your student missed directly with him or her. This is a very effective process.

What Our People Say

Sophie got a 33 (top 1%) on her ACT! She was offered a full ride from KU in the chemical engineering program. She will be starting in the Fall. Thank you so much for your help with all of this wonderful news. :). It was well worth the work and investment in your program.

Katie H., Test Geek Parent

I have never been more pleased with a company for its attention to detail and concern for its customers! My daughter improved her score by over 300 points! I would highly and without reservation recommend Test Geek for ANY student's SAT prep.

Sheena M., Test Geek Parent

Our son did their SAT tutoring program last fall, and I have nothing but great things to say about this place. Our son's SAT score was in the low 1200s. After Test Geek, he got a 1410! He is so happy about it, and we are so thankful that we picked you. A+!

Dennis C., Test Geek Parent

I did the private tutoring program, and my tutor was the best. From the beginning, I knew that my score was going to go up. My teacher was able to break the test down in ways I hadn't even thought of, and I am so happy because I got into my first choice college!

PSAT Tutoring FAQ

Our PSAT tutoring matches your student one-on-one with a 99th percentile tutor. We've answered most of the questions we often receive below, but if we haven't answered yours, feel free to give us a call at 1-866-210-4335.

Is the PSAT tutoring program customized for my student's needs?

Yes, completely. Most students who are prepping for the PSAT are aiming for National Merit, and that automatically means they have different needs from most students. We're able to spend time exactly where your student needs it most rather than based on some pre-determined formula. If your student is really good at algebra but struggles with geometry, we will spend more time on geometry. Another big aspect of the customization is that homework problems are reviewed one-on-one as well, so your student will be getting direct attention on the problems he or she missed. This combination of specific attention is very powerful, and it is the primary reason our PSAT tutoring is so effective.

Where will the PSAT prep sessions be held?

Most students prefer to have the sessions held in their house. In some cases, the student's house might not be possible. In those cases, public libraries work well. We prefer to not have sessions in coffee shops. Whenever you first speak with your instructor, you can discuss with him or her what you prefer. Whenever possible, we try to accomodate your house as the session location if that is your preference. In certain cases, geography may make that difficult, but we will always advise you of that upfront.

Is the scheduling flexible?

Yes! Unlike our SAT prep classes, our private tutoring program does not have a fixed schedule. It is entirely up to you and your student. Many of our students have incredibly busy schedules, and we have been able to accomodate them well in the past. Our tutors have excellent evening and weekend availability, so we can work with nearly any scheduling requirements.

What if I don't like my tutor?

We are extremely picky about the tutors we hire, and this almost never happens. Not only are our tutors required to have a 99th percentile SAT or PSAT score, they also go through rigorous teaching auditions to ensure they are good instructors. However, personalities differ, and occassionally things don't mesh in an ideal way. Our students can always request a tutor change, and we will assign a new tutor who might be a better fit. But again, this almost never happens.

What are your tutors' qualifications?

This is the most important question you can ask before picking a PSAT tutor. The quality of the tutor matters more than anything else in this process. Our tutors have several important distinctions. First, they have all scored in the top 1% on the SAT or PSAT, with most of them being National Merit finalists or semifinalists. That is an incredibly high standard, and it is far higher than that of most companies offering test prep. However, being great at the PSAT doesn't mean someone can teach those tests. We want tutors who can connect with students, so we put all of our tutor candidates through multiple rounds of teaching auditions to make sure they are good educators rather than just brainiacs. Finally, all of our tutors have graduated from top universities. We don't hire undergraduates. This combination of maturity, SAT expertise and teaching ability is powerful, and it has a proven record of producing serious test score improvements.

When should we start? How often will sessions take place?

The PSAT is typically given in mid-October, so we know when the finish line is. We normally do one or two sessions per week, so we can back up from that mid-October target based on the number of sessions you plan to do. We always recommend students target an SATalong with the PSAT, so that also adds a layer to the decision-making process. See below for more on that, or give us a call at 866-210-4335 to talk through why a student who is a candidate for a National Merit score on the PSAT is virtually always ready to also take the SAT.

Is the PSAT used for college admissions?

Not unless a student qualifies for Namtional Merit. The PSAT is meaningless unless a student qualifies for National Merit. However, National Merit is prestigious, comes with money and is worth pursuing for a student who has a realistic chance at scoring in the top ~.8% on the PSAT.

Is the PSAT different from the SAT? If the PSAT is taken in October, when should my student take the SAT?

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about this. The PSAT that is taken during the junior year is academically equivalent to the SAT. College Board, the maker of both tests, publishes a topic list for both tests. And they are identical! The PSAT is out of 1520 instead of 1600, and the test is slightly shorter. So the scoring is not perfectly one-for-one, but on a percentile basis, they are comparable.

No here is where some strategy comes in. Both tests top out in terms of content at Algebra 2. Any student who has a realistic shot at National Merit, which is roughly the top .8% of students, has likely already completed Algebra 2. So if we are prepping for the PSAT, we should also be targeting an SAT date around the same time.

There are two ways to do this. First, we can target the early November SAT. It is roughly 2 1/2 weeks after the PSAT. This works great, and we are essentially taking both tests at the end of the prep cycle. The other possibility, and this is favorable if the student has a relatively free summer schedule, is to use the summer to prep for the late August SAT. This sounds strange to some students as they would be taking the SAT before the PSAT, but this is actually quite common for our high-scoring students. The only downside is that we have about seven weeks typically between the SAT and PSAT, so it may be advisable to throw in a few sessions between the tests.

Talking about this stuff is what we do, so give us a call at 866–210–4335 to run through which of these options is best for your student.
